Calibra Accountancy

Calibra CFO

A CFO in the room, without one on payroll.

For founders who've grown past the point where an accountant is enough, but aren't ready to hire a full-time finance leader. We embed as your outsourced CFO, so the strategic finance work actually gets done.

What an outsourced CFO does

An outsourced CFO gives you the perspective of a chief financial officer on a fractional basis. You get someone who owns the numbers with you, translates them into decisions, and sits alongside your leadership team, without carrying the salary, equity and benefits of a full-time appointment.

In practice that means clear monthly reporting you actually understand, a cash flow model you can trust, and a partner who's in the room when you're weighing up hires, pricing, funding or a new market. It's the level of finance leadership most owner-managed businesses need long before they're ready to hire one permanently.

Three shifts we make when we plug in.

Strategy

Direction, not just reporting.

We help you set financial goals that ladder up to the business you're building, then keep the numbers honest against them.

Reporting & forecasting

Numbers you can plan around.

Monthly management accounts, rolling cash flow, and forecasts that hold up to scrutiny. Board-ready, founder-friendly.

Funding & operations

Ready when the moment comes.

Whether it's a raise, a refinance, or a hiring decision, we make sure the numbers support the story you need to tell.

When it makes sense

Signs it's time to bring in a CFO.

You don't need to tick all six. One or two is usually enough to know a fractional CFO would earn their keep.

  • You're making decisions your accountant isn't briefed on.

  • Cash flow forecasting still lives in a spreadsheet nobody trusts.

  • You want a monthly view of the business, not a yearly one.

  • A raise, refinance or exit is on the horizon.

  • You're setting KPIs but no one's holding them to the numbers.

  • A full-time CFO is overkill, and no CFO is starting to hurt.

What you get

Strategic finance, on a steady rhythm.

01

Monthly rhythm

Management accounts, cash position, and a working session with the founder. Enough contact to keep momentum, not so much that it becomes a meeting problem.

02

Quarterly board

A proper board pack, forecasts refreshed, and the strategic conversation your business needs but rarely gets time for.

03

On-demand

Big call to make? Pricing decision, hire, deal, lender conversation. You get us in the room before the decision, not after.

Josh, founder of Calibra and your outsourced CFO

Who you're working with

Meet Josh, the CFO in your corner.

I founded Calibra after more than a decade inside finance teams at fast-growing businesses, from owner-managed firms to venture-backed scale-ups. I've sat in the seat you're hiring for, closed the month, built the forecast, and had the hard conversations about cash, pricing and payroll.

As your outsourced CFO, I'm the one in the room. No account managers, no handoffs. You get direct access to a partner who reads the numbers, draws a view, and tells you what I'd do next.

FAQ

Common questions about Calibra CFO.

How is this different from having an accountant?+

An accountant keeps you compliant. A CFO helps you decide. We do both, but the CFO work is forward-looking. Forecasts, scenarios, board packs, decisions on hiring, pricing and investment. It sits alongside the day-to-day compliance work, not instead of it.

How much time do we get?+

Engagements are shaped to the business, not to a fixed hours-per-month template. Some clients want a strong monthly rhythm; others want a lighter cadence with intensive support around key moments. We agree the shape at the start and adjust as things change.

Do you replace our bookkeeper?+

Not by default. If your bookkeeping is in a good place, we work on top of it. If it isn't, we can bring bookkeeping and VAT in-house so the whole stack is consistent.

What size of business is this for?+

Typically owner-managed businesses that have outgrown a general accountant but aren't at the scale of a full-time CFO. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so on the first call.

Are you locking us in?+

No. Engagements are month-to-month with clear scope. You should keep us because we're worth it, not because a contract says so.
